Abstract Objectives. The purpose of this study is to investigate how the associations of life satisfaction with family and social relations differ between elderly men and women in Japan. Methods. Ordered logit models were estimated to explain life satisfaction with a rich set of explanatory variables, using micro data from 3,063 Japanese elderly adults (1,565 men and 1,498 women) collected from the first-wave sample of the Japanese Study of Aging and Retirement (JSTAR), a survey compatible with the HRS in the United States and SHARE in Europe. Results. This study found that life satisfaction is more closely associated with family and social relations for women than for men, after controlling for socioeconomic, health, and other factors. Women are more sensitive than men to coresidence and contact with family members, especially parents-in-law, as well as to social relations with others in the community, while men are much more depressed than women by divorce or widowhood. Discussion. Observed associations between each factor and life satisfaction are largely consistent with those separately reported by preceding studies. However, this analysis compared the relative importance of each factor and its gender difference, contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of subjective well-being of elderly people

Those who ranged in age from 75 to 84 years accounted for almost 14 percent of the 40 million admissions to U.S. hospitals that year, while patients age 85 and over made up another 8 percent.

長寿科学研究 厚生労働省 慢性期医療機関は、介護老人保健施設より、法令遵守や内部倫理・内部規制の遵守等について、コンプライアンス経営として取り組んでいる意識が高く、コンプライアンスの担当者の配置率やコンプライアンスの把握調査の実施率も高かった。 コンプライアンス経営といった場合に意識する内容として、利用者の人権・尊厳の尊重・満足度、労務管理への取り組みは、介護老人保健施設のほうが、慢性期医療機関より高い傾向があった。 事業者の第三者評価は、医療機関においては、平成9年から病院機能評価が始まっているのに対し、介護サービスについては、福祉サービス第三者評価が平成16年3月、介護保険法に基づく介護サービス情報の公表制度は平成18年4月開始と、介護サービスの第三者評価は、始まったばかりである。 事業者のコンプライアンス体制構築のためには第三者評価が重要なことは諸外国の方策からも明らかであり、第三者評価や情報公開制度は今後も推進されることが重要と考えられる。

超高齢社会は、地方公共団体による都市経営にも深刻な影響をもたらしている。高齢者の急増は、社会福祉分野における行政支出の拡大を通じて、地方公共団体の財政に大きな負担を与えている。このため、その他の行政サービスのための支出を抑制する傾向が強まり、高齢者自身も含め、結果として、市民は豊かな生活を実感することができない状況に直面しつつある。こうした状況下で必要となるのは、高齢者の社会参加や生産性を維持し、高齢者自身が一般市民と共に生き甲斐を実感できる地域の仕組みづくりであると考えられる。社会福祉サービスをただ拡大しただけでは、高齢者を含めた市民の豊かさの実現にはつながらない。 筆者がその後の状況を検索するに、こうした地域社会の高齢化問題への対処は、市町村合併による財政基盤の確保という課題に姿を変え、高齢社会における都市経営、高齢者が豊かに暮らせるような地域経営のあり方に向けた議論や研究はほとんどみられない。我が国は、世界における超高齢社会のトップランナーであるにもかかわらず、この領域の研究についてみると、1998年における先駆的な議論の段階からほとんど進んでいないということになる。

Everyday life and life circumstances of older people スウェーデン GOTENBURG大学 研究テーマ（その２） The research concerning gerontological social work, i.e. social care of the elderly focus upon the everyday life of older people, the interplay between societal conditions, actions of the members of the elders’ formal and informal support networks and the impact these factors have on the life circumstances of older people. Key concepts in the research are social interaction, social support and social care. Social interaction is studied in terms of formal and informal support networks, and interpersonal relationships. Daily life and living conditions include dimensions such as time, place, intentions and strategies developed by the elders to manage their everyday lives. The research also takes into account social support and care in the sense of the consequences of formal and informal support.
